August 2017 releases

Hello and welcome to another edition of <Insert Month> Releases! This month sees our usual roundup of recommended releases in the videogame and film worlds. Read on dear patron!

Ark: Survival Evolved (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Finally escaping frm Steam Early Access, this dino-survival romp gets a full release, including on PS4 and XBox One! Tame dinosaurs and create ever more advanced tech.

Bonus! Check out our video of a very early build of the game!

Sonic Mania (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

Can a return to retro stylings bolster the Sonic franchise? With some classy pixels and chiptunes we can only hope this game captures what made the originals so great (or make us remember how frustrating they were?)

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (PS4)

With Drake in retirement, Naughty Dog turn to a couple of side characters to create a new standalone Uncharted using the Uncharted 4 engine. Looks nice, but will it be the same without the wisecracks?

Absolver (PC, PS4)

MMO Brawling with customisable fighting styles? Sign us up! A couple of us on the HM team are really looking forward to this so here's hoping it lives up to expectations!

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Switch)

Mario and the Rabbids team up for an XCOM-style tactical shooter? I have no idea if this will work but I really hope it does!

Yakuza Kiwami (PS4)

A full remake of the original PS2 Yakuza that started the legendary series. Play as Kiryu, 'The Dragon of Dojima', return to the Yakuza after 10 years in prison (for a crime he didn't commit, no less) and get revenge. But before that, karaoke!

Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets

Luc Besson directs this sci fi epic based on a classic french comic series. Looks suitably mad!

Atomic Blonde

Based on a graphic novel, Charlize Theron plays the super spy on a mission to uncover some spy things and be a sexy spy assassin person. Looks action packed!

Shin Godzilla

Finally released after some distributor jiggery-pokery, this 31st installment in the long running kaiju series hits the UK like a big monster hitting a skyscraper.

A Ghost Story

Rather than a horror tale, this is an interesing look at what happens when you are left behind. Casey Affleck stars as a ghost stuck watching time pass without him.

The Dark Tower

Idris Elba takes on the role of 'The Gunslinger' in this take on the Stephen King tale. A Young child's visions are proved correct when he is slung into a fantasy world in a fight to save his world.

Anything we missed? What releases are you looking forward to in August? Let us know in the comments!
